About CrossFit… What is it?

CrossFit is a workout method and community that uses a mix of aerobic exercise, body weight exercises, gymnastics, and olympic weight lifting to achieve fitness goals. The goal is to improve fitness and overall general physical preparedness in daily life.

The CrossFit strength and conditioning program is:

* Constantly Varied
* Functional Movements
* Performed at High intensity

The daily workout is called the “WOD” which stands for “Workout of the Day” and they are typically short (30 minutes or less) and very intense – demanding full physical exertion. The routine is determined at the start of each day and all athletes participate in the same WOD scaled to meet their individual ability.

The daily WOD exercises combine movements such as running, rowing, jumping rope, climbing, flipping tires, weightlifting, carrying heavy objects, squats, various lifts, pushups, pullups, situps, burpees, dips, and many other bodyweight exercises. The equipment used will vary from place to place, but typically includes barbells, dumbbells, gymnastics rings, pull-up bars, kettlebells, medicine balls, benches and boxes.

The CrossFit program is designed for universal scalability, which makes it perfect for any committed individual regardless of experience. Everyone from average everyday people to cage fighters to elite athletes can use the same routines at the same time. Whether you are training for a sporting event or just improving your health, you can scale the load and intensity to fit your ability.
